The Menai Strait Regattas fortnight is one of the UK's classic summer regatta series, offering sailing from various venues in the Menai Strait over a two-week period in July/August, and catering for all classes of sailing from dinghies to cruisers. Most people who know of the regattas will be familiar with the classic local boats which attend regularly, but historically it has also been a great location for dinghy racing, a tradition which we are looking to revive. Regular visitors in recent years have included Mirror and Miracle dinghies, GP14s, Enterprises, Albacores and Lasers. Racing this year will take place every day between 25th July and 5th August, except for Sunday 31st July. As well as racing from Beaumaris, there are three days of racing at Caernarfon and Port Dinorwic. Special highlights include: * the classic 'race through' from Beaumaris to Caernarfon past some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK * the race round Puffin Island, starting and finishing at Beaumaris. There are prizes every day, with class prizes for dinghies of more than 6 participating boats of one type, so it is possible to join just for a couple of special events, for a whole week, or even the whole fortnight. There are some very fine trophies dedicated to the GP14 fleet for specific days! We would like to invite members of the GP14 class from Combs SC to consider coming up for one or two days or longer during the 2010 regatta series, to race with us, and to see what we have to offer to dinghy racers and sailing families. We would be pleased to meet with you to welcome you and help you get launched and involved, and perhaps to bring more visitors in future years. Any member of the class who is interested to know more is welcome to contact me.We can provide information on the sailing as well as travel and accommodation options. We look forward to hearing from you! Wendy Jones, Menai Strait Regattas Committee
