Information for prospective members

Combs Sailing Club lies amid the glorious scenery of the Peak District. The reservoir is just over a kilometre long and about 400 m wide near the dam. The surrounding hills rise gently to create a beautiful setting with winds that are less gusty than neighbouring reservoirs but still able to provide interesting sailing.

The Club runs a large variety of competitive sailing events for members, mainly on Wednesday evenings and Sundays. Racing is competitive but not aggressive and members, even novices, are encouraged to take part. Club members may sail whenever they wish, although on Open days sailing is restricted to racing in specified classes. However the patrol boat is only manned and on the water on dates published in the Calendar. Keys to the Boat Park and Clubhouse are available to members on payment of a £25 deposit.

The Club has several boats, which members may use. Training is organised by the Sailing Committee during the summer months, usually on Saturday afternoons.

The Club takes part in several inter-club events, such as the High Peak Regatta, the Southport 24 hour race and organises several single class open meetings, which attract sailors from across the country. The Club aims to provide a friendly atmosphere and organises social events throughout the year.

DUTIES AND OBLIGATIONS

The Combs Sailing Club is run by its members for the benefit of its members. All members contribute to the upkeep of the Club and the safe and efficient organisation of sailing.

All members, including those who do not race, are expected to act as Officers for racing (appropriate training will be provided), and help at work parties

The General Purposes Committee is charged with the overall management, finance and development of the Club. The Sailing Committee is responsible for organising all activities on the water, i.e. racing, regattas, open days, training and scheduling of duties. An AGM is held in November.

FLEETS

The main fleets are the GP14 fleet and the menagerie fleet, which includes, Lasers, Lightnings, Supernovas, Phantoms, RS300s, Enterprises, and Toppers.
